The fight against corruption starts in the home. The home is the child’s first exposure to social interaction, to values, behaviour of those around them. They are good observers and imitators. It is here they learn discipline and good behaviour. “Children are great imitators. So give them something great to imitate.”
Parents and carers have a huge part to play. Spend quality time with them. Teach a child the way he/she should go, and she /he will not depart from it.
Teach them to be HONEST, to be HUMBLE and to be HUMANE
Teach them to be compassionate. To see suffering and injustice, and to aim to do something about it.
Teach them to be good and law abiding citizens. Teach them to be positive contributors to their society.
Teach them the value of hard work and to value money. To spend it judiciously .To use money to bring joy and comfort to themselves and others less fortunate. The more you give the more you get. Teach the difference between those who are rich as a result of hard work and innovation (who deserve respect) and those who acquire wealth in an unlawful manner.
Teach them to be assertive and to express their opinion without being disrespectful.
Teach them to show an interest in the affairs of their country, to have basic political knowledge and to be aware of divisive issues and to be environmentally conscious.
If you have a faith- teach them aspects of your faith which emphasises the love of your neighbour as yourself and the need for all men to live in love and peace with each other.
The basic on going home background training should be further reinforced at all stages of their formal education.
